Explain the thalamus’ role in sensation.
The thalamus routes sensory information to parts of the brain that handle perception. The thalamus does not handle smell.
The sense of muscle position and tension
Proprioception
Cells that convert movement or pressure into nerve impulses
Mechanoreceptors
What are the four things our skin can sense?
- heat/cold (infra-red light)
- pressure
- hair movement
- pain
What is the purpose of pain?
Pain is the nervous system’s way of informing you that your body might be damaged and needs attention.
