1-Correlation Vs Causation Flashcards
Any scientifically proven relationship between two or more variables
Example: taller people tend to weigh more than shorter people
Correlation
Any scientifically proven relationship where one event or change causes another
Causation
Two variables increase together
Example: height and weight are positively correlated
Positive correlation
One variable increases as another decreases
Example: money spent versus money in bank
Negative correlation
Unclear if relationship exists between variables
Weak correlation
Variables not measured or observed in the study but that still affect a relationship
Hidden variables
Correlation must be investigated before it can be concluded that one thing causes another
“Correlation alone does not prove causation.”
