How to identify a horse?
Use permanent markings and non-permanent markings
What are permanent markings/data?
- Species
- Breed
- Sex
- Colour
- White marks
- Whorls
- Chip
What are non-permanent markings/data?
- Age
- Body weight
- Hight
- Body length
- Tattoos
- Branding marks
Name some colour of the horse:
Black, dark bay, light bay, dun, gray
Markings on the head:
- Star
- Blaze
- Strip
- Snip
- Bald face
- Lip marking
White markings on the limb:
- White cornet (white, smaller line just above the hoof)
- White pastern
- White fetlock
- White sock
- white to knee, to hock etc
Markings normal on the rest of the body:
Whorls, white markings, brand marks, tattoos
On which regions can we find whorls?
- Forehead
- Pectoral region

Heart rate

28-42 (we normally say 30-40)
Heart rate of foal:
At birth: 60-100

Temperature of adult:
37-38
Temperature of foal:
37.5-38.5
Respiratory rate adult:
10-18
Respiratory rate foal:
Birth: Gasping
0-2 hrs: 40-60
