Change emotion through behavioural approach (do something to distract) or by cognitive approach (create positive thoughts)
What is problem focussed coping?
Reduce demands of situation

In what 3 ways can we aid coping?
Increase social support

Prepare patients for stressful events (reduce uncertainty)

Effective communication, peer contact, respond to individual preferences
