2/14/17 GTR #2 Flashcards
What is the most important thing you have to know about chlorhexidine?
-Need to pre-rinse for two minutes prior to invasive procedure but just 30 seconds at home, both with 15 mL
Does chlorhexidine kill fibroblasts?
-Yes
When you do a surgical procedure do you want to rinse immediately after?
-No because it may damage the flap
What is the problem with autogenous bone?
-It is a mixture of stuff
What intraoral site has the worst morbidity (post operative pain)?
-Mandibular symphysis and ramus
What was the problem with getting bone from the iliac crest?
-High morbidity
When do you want to obtain allografts?
-Within hours of death
If you don’t collect allografts quickly after death what happens to the product?
-They lose their activity
In most cases of bone regeneration what products do you use?
-Combination of autogenous bone with some allograft bone
When you do bone regeneration what are some adverse outcomes because of the activity?
- Ankylosis (bone and tooth fuse together)
- Root Resorption
T/F Allografts that are undecalcified freeze-dried are considered to be osteoconductive (scaffolding)
True
What are decalcified freeze-dried bone considered to be?
-Osteoinductive (proteins are available)
T/F Most of the time if you use decalcified allografts you also want to use undecalcified allografts to get the osteoconductiveness of a bone to grow
True
Are xenografts osteoconductive or osteoinductive?
-Osteoconductive
T/F Xenografts are easy to manipulate and pack
True
