1c. Humerus Flashcards
What is the SID and for humerus views
SID = 110cm
What is the kV and for humerus views
for with and without grids
70-75kV (w/ grid)
70-85kV (no grid)
are grids used for humerus views
yes
What is the CP for an AP humerus view
Perpendicular to the mid point of humerus
what are the 3 points to consider when positioning a patient for an AP humerus view
in terms of humerus alignment, epicondyles and rotation
Humerus aligned to IR long axis
Epicondyle parallel to IR
Arm abducted & supinated (external rotation)
What are the 3 positioning image critiques for an AP humerus
in terms of how external rotation is demonstrated, how there is no rotation of the arm and alignment of the arm
Long axis hum align to long axis IR
External rotation = G-tubercle in profile laterally
No rotation (elbow parallel to IR) = Lat & med epicondyles in profile
What is the area of interest image critique to look for in an AP humerus
Shoulder (hum head & glenoid fossa) to elbow – both joints
Some beam shows above skin margins above glenohumeral joint/shoulder
what are the 4 points to consider when positioning a patient for a rotational lateral humerus view
in terms of elbow, patient angling, epicondyles and hand position
Elbow flexed 90*
Patient stand 15-20* from PA, affected humerus/shoulder touching IR
Epicondyle perpendicular to IR
Hand pronated (internal rotation)
what are the 3 points to consider when positioning a patient for a mid/distal humerus trauma view
in terms of patient body position, IR position and hand position
Recumbent
IR vertically between thorax and humerus
Hand lateral position
the arm should be rotated internally/externally/neutrally in a AP humerus view
how is this shown by the epicondyles and hand positioning
externally rotated
epicondyles of elbow parallel to IR
the arm should be rotated internally/externally/neutrally in a rotational lateral humerus view
how is this shown by the epicondyles and hand positioning
internal rotation
Epicondyle perpendicular to IR
Hand pronated
what are the 5 points to consider when positioning a patient for a transthoracic humerus trauma view
in terms of shoulder position, unaffected arm position, centering, breathing, and rotation
Affected limb touch IR & drop shoulder
Unaffected arm over head & elevate shoulder (prevent superimposition)
Mid diaphysis @ IR centre
Lateral thorax & breathing technique
Neutral rotation
the arm should be rotated internally/externally/neutrally in a transthoracic lateral humerus trauma view
how is this shown by the epicondyles and hand positioning
Neutral rotation
epicondyles 45* to the IR
What is the CP for a rotational lateral non trauma humerus view
Perpendicular to the mid point of humerus
What is the CP for a lateral mid/distal trauma humerus view
Perpendicular to the distal 1/3 humerus
