C - context of clinical encounter, achieve empathy, power relationship.
L - “listening and questioning skills, engage patient and pay attention to what is not being said.
A - Acknowledge patients and own feelings, reassurance
S - strategy for treatment negotiated with patient, explain options and negotiate
S - summary of treatment and preventative options, promote routine attendance
What is empathy?
The ability to understand and share the feelings of another
What is sympathy?
Feelings of Pitt and sorrow for someone else’s misfortune
What are some examples of negative body language?
- avoiding eye contact
- clenching
- hand holding
- folded arms
- signs of discomfort
What are some examples of positive body language?
- relaxed, Unclenched, open
- maintaining eye contact
- leaning forward
- mirroring
- head in neutral position
