Describe the advantage of the process being very thorough
The bills go under scrutiny at many stages. There are also many opportunities for debates and amendments
How is the PLM process democratic?
MPs in the HOC are democratically elected. HOL cannot delays laws for any longer than one year (Parliament Acts 1911 and 1949)
Why is government control a good thing?
The government have most of the power in the law making process, and the public control the government
Why are the House of Lords an advantage?
They are a checking mechanism for the house of commons. They prevent laws that just benefit the government. They are experts in many different areas.
How is the parliamentary law making process flexible?
There are several types of bill that can be introduced. They can also be introduced by people other than the government.
How is the Parliamentary Law making process undemocratic?
Neither the Lords or the Monarch are elected
Why is Government control a bad thing?
They have the power to vote against private bills. They are also able to bypass the HOL (EG Hunting Act 2004)
Why is the PLM process slow?
A bill has to go through many different processes. This can take many months.
Why is the PLM process dated?
The language is often ambiguous. 75% of Supreme Court cases are based on ill-worded laws. This language makes the law inaccessible to ordinary people.
