Definition
Excessive anxiety and worry about a number of events or activities. Intensity, duration or frequency of anxiety and worry is out of proportion to the actual likelihood or impact of the anticipated event.
Diagnosis
For at least 6 months. As above. DSM-5
Signs and symptoms
Restlessness, fatigue, irritability, difficulty concentrating,
Muscle tension, trembling, twitching, feeling shaky, muscle aches or soreness.
Aetiology/risk factors
Stressful life events, age, gender, substance abuse, childhood adversity, parental over protection, family history.
Certain personality traits can make people more prone.
Medical treatments:
Anti-depressants, anti-anxiety medication, CBT, counselling, stress management
Comorbidities
Depression, eating disorder, substance abuse, other types of anxiety disorder, CVD, other chronic disease
