Definition
A
The whole hip joint is surgically replaced with metal and plastic prosthetic implants.

What are the three approaches:
A
Anterior approach: Less muscle damage, earlier rehab, less mobile period, quicker surgery etc. More likely to have nerve damage.
Lateral approach: For revision surgery, for more complex medical issues
Posterior approach: Muscle split of gluteus Maximus. more dislocations and more restrictions post surgery.

Post operative recovery progression:
A
Breathing exercises, weight bearing and movement restrictions. Walking aid. Retraining for ADL’s.
Hospitalised for: 3-5 days on average
6-12 weeks to resume normal activities.
