Why was there an increase in crime in the periods 1700-1900
A
-This period is known as the Industrial Revolution where there was a huge increase in population e.g in 1700 there were 9.5 million people in England and Wales which had increased to 41.5 million by 1900.
-More people were now living in towns rather than villages and so crime was easier to commit because people did not know each other. London became the largest city in Europe and its population quadrupled between 1760-1860.
