Ethics is about what is considered right and wrong by society.

Users trust companies to keep their data private so companies need to take care of it

Is when a country or organization controls what people can access on the internet.

Surveillance is when someone is monitored using technology.
What is the Data Protection Act?
Controls how personal data is used
it has to be accurate and up to date kept secure
Should not be kept longer than needed

Gives the public the right to see information about public organizations

Makes any unauthorised access to data

What is The Copyright, Designs & Patents Act?
Protects things you have created from being used without permission
What is The Creative Commons?
Let’s people release their work to be used and shared legally and sometimes modified
What is E-waste?
Ewaste is when we throw away devices because they are broken or because we want to upgrade
What is The Waste Electric and Electronic Equipment (WEEE)?
The directive has rules for how devices should be disposed of so that they’re recycled/disposed of safely
How can Devices have positive impacts on the environment?
Video calls rather than travelling along distance causing pollution.
What is the Digital Divide?
Some people do have access to technology, others don’t
What are the causes of the Digital Divide?
The digital divide can be due to people not having enough money to buy devices or due to living in places without internet access,
Not having the skills to use the technologies available.
What are the positive effects of technology on culture?
Easier and faster communications has contributed to the rise of democracy
Globalization can also increase cultural awareness and promote diversity
What are the negative effects of technology on culture?
Challenges of inequality from the uneven distribution of technology within a country also still remain
Developing countries risk losing their cultural identities and assimilating themselves into an increasing westernised owrld

Limiting public exposure to content that may ignite social or political unrest
