17. Implant overdentures Flashcards
Define implant overdentures:
Prosthesis that covers and is partially supported by natural teeth/roots and/or implants
Types of implant overdentures? (2)
- Implant supported-implant retained overdentures.
- Tissue supported-implant retained overdentures.
implant overdentures: support in tissue supported -implant retained?
No support over the implants
implant overdentures: what helps retention? (4)
• Adhesion. • Cohesion. • Border seal. • Retentive devices (attachments). - Bars. - Balls. - Other attachments (Locator®).
implant overdentures: what helps stability? (3)
- Balanced articulation (the same as CDs).
- All the other principles for CDs.
- Increased stability because of attachments.
Implant overdentures: indictions? (5)
- patients with alot of bone crest loss
- No option but to replace teeth, hard & soft tissue (ex. lack of lip support)
- patients that want to improve retention and stability of their complete denture (usually lower)
- cant beat having more implants
- $$ reasons
Implant overdentures: contraindictions? (4)
• Patients very comfortable with their CDs.
• Enough bone volume and quality for a fixed rehabilitation.
• Any decease that contraindicates surgical
procedures.
• Not enough bone volume to place implants.
Implant overdentures: treatment planning? (4)
Same as CD
- Assessment of lip support.
- Smile line.
- Vertical dimension.
- Intermaxillary relationship
Implant overdentures: What do we examine intraorally? (2)
- Volume of alveolar ridge.
- Soft tissue pathology.
Implant overdentures: distribution of implants? (3)
- Maxilla: Lateral incisor and first premolars.
- Mandible:Canines.
Implant overdentures: retentive bars? (4)
- Dolder.
- Akerman.
- Hader.
- Parallel surfaces bar.
Implant overdentures: retentive axial devices? (3)
- Ball attachments.
- Locator®.
- Magnets.
