Mechanism of action
Antibody fragment that binds to glocoprotein Iib/IIIa receptors on platelets, prevents fibrinogen and other procoagulants form activating platelets
indications
Acute coronary syndrome, percutaneous coronary intervention
precautions
none
contraindications
Actie bleeding, recent trauma/surgery, serious bleeding disorders, thrombocytopenia
drug interactions
increased risk of bleeding with anticoagulants and thrombolytic agents
pregnancy category
C
adverse effects
back pain, chest pain, hypotension. Serious adverse effects: abnormal bleeding
nursing considerations
Moniter lab tests, observe for bleeding, watch for hypersensitivity, minimize bleeding risk, elevate head of bed and keep limbs straight when femoral artery access is used
teaching
immediately report bleeding, do not use other OTC meds or supplements
