1.6 Organ Systems Flashcards
Name 6 human organ systems.
- skeletal system
- muscular system
- digestive system
- respiratory system
- nervous system
- circulatory system
What does the skeletal system do?
Provides structure to the body and protects internal organs
What does the muscular system do?
Supports the body and allows it to move
What does the digestive system do?
Breaks down food and absorbs its nutrients
What does the respiratory system do?
Takes in oxygen and releases waste gases
What does the nervous system do?
Controls sensation, thought, movement and virtually all other body activities
What does the circulatory system do?
Transports oxygen, nutrients and other substances to cells and carries away waste
What do your intestines do?
Take the nutrients and water out of the food
What do your lungs do?
Oxygen and carbon dioxide exchange
What do your kidneys do?
Removes ions from blood
What is the digestive system made up of and what are their functions?
- glands, like the pancreas and salivary glands that produce digestive juices
- stomach and small intestine where digestion a occurs
- the liver which produces bile
- the small intestine where the absorption of soluble foods occurs
- the large intestine where water is absorbed from undigested food, producing faeces
