1.5 Tissues and Organs Flashcards
Name 3 types of basic human tissue
- glands
- muscles
- epithelial
What does muscular tissue do?
Contracts and causes movement
What does glandular tissue do?
Secretes enzymes and hormones
What does epithelial tissue do?
Covers your body externally or internally
Name 3 plant tissues.
- epidermal
- mesophyll
- xylem and phloem
What does epidermal tissue do?
Covers and protects the surface, controls entrance of water
What does mesophyll tissue do?
Contains chloroplasts for photosynthesis
What do xylem and phloem tissues do?
They’re involved in transferring and transporting materials
What are organs?
Collection of different tissues working together to carry out a specific function
Name an example of an organ
Heart
What 3 tissues is a stomach made of?
- muscular tissue to churn the stomach contents
- glandular tissue to produce digestive juices
- epithelial tissue to cover the outside and inside of the stomach
Name 3 plant organs that contain epidermal, mesophyll and xylem and phloem tissue
- leaf
- stem
- root
What is the order of complexity in multicellular organisms?
Organelle->cell->tissue->organ->organ system ->organism
What is a tissue?
A group of cells with similar structure and function that work together
