15.3 Nasal Cavity and Nasopharynx Flashcards
Identify the nasal septum as well as: the perpendicular place of the ethmoid, the vomer, and the septal cartilage.
-
Identify the sphenopalatine artery.
Describe the blood flow in this area and relevant anastomsis.
Internal carotid – Opthalmic – Anterior and Posterior Ethmoid aa. – Anterior septal aa
External carotid – Maxillary – Sphenopalatine – Posterior Septal and Lateral posterior nasal aa.
Anastamoses between anterior septal from Internal carotid and Posterior septal from external carotid.
Identify the frontal sinus and the sphenoidal sinus (paranasal)
-
Identify and describe the vestibule and atrium
the spaces anterior to the inferior concha and middle meatus
Identify the superior, middle, and inferior conchae
-
Identify the superior, middle, and inferior meatuses (and opening of nasolacrimal duct)
the spaces inferior to (under) the conchae
Identify the ethmoid bulla within the middle meatus.
Identfy and describe the semilunar hiatus, opening of maxillary sinus, and frontonasal duct
the semilunar hiatus is within the middle meatus.
the opening of the maxillary sinus into the semilunar hiatus.
Identify the sphenoethmoidal recess
-
Identify the pharyngeal tonsil, torus tubaris, opening of pharyngotympanic tube, and salpingopharyngeal fold.
-
Identify the salpingopharyngeus muscle underneath its corresponding fold. Describe its innervation and function
- Innervated by Vagus nerve.
- Fxn: Helps elevate pharynx. Pulls on torus tubaris to help pressure equalize middle ear.
