  1. History
  2. CBC
  3. peripheral smear: increased destruction: large platelets or decreased production
    * rule out pseudo-thrombocytopenia
  4. other: anemia, hemolytic anemia (coombs), bone marrow biopsy if unexplained thrombocytopenia
