1.5 Genetic Engineering Flashcards

1
Q

What are the stages of genetic engineering?

A
  • Identify the required gene from a source chromosome
  • Extract the required gene using a special enzyme
  • Find a plasmid from a bacterium
  • Open the plasmid using the same special enzyme
  • Seal the gene into the plasmid using a different special enzyme
  • Insert the modified plasmid into the host bacterial cell
  • Multiply the modified bacterium
  • Purify and extract the desired chemical
