Who were the KKK
They were a group that organised demonstrations against civil Rights and were involved in violent attacks
What was the frequent reason for the KKK attacks
Black people in the south registering to vote, or campaigning for civil rights in any way
What happened to Emmett Till
Emmett Till was a 14 year black boy who lived in the north.
He went down to see his counsins and went into a shop.
It was said that he grabbed her and made sexual actions towards the women in the shop and wolfed wistled at her
Her husband Roy Bryant got told this story so him and his half brother went to Tills uncles house, grabbed till, took him and beat him up, shot him, then threw him into the river
What happened after Till’s death which was significant
His mother insisted on an open casket funeral where everyone could see the condition Till was in. This gained lots of publicity which turned into outrage among black and white people
Then the defendents sold their story (addmitting the murder) for $3,500 which fuelled further outrage
What did the murder of Emmett Till show
It showed how public outrage and publicity won support of Civil Rights
What did the southern churches believe
They believed that the bible said intergration was a sin
Why was the white citerzen counsil set up
It was set up in Mississippi to preserve segregation, especially in schools. They were violent

They were a party that believed in segregation and formed their own breakaway party rather than support a civil rights Bill
