13.7 Cloud Resources Flashcards
Describe On-demand self service
Users must be able to dynamically obtain resources
Describe Broad network access
The service needs to be provided over a network, typically the internet, and be available in multiple platforms, such as mobile phones, tablets, laptops, and workstations.
Describe Resource pooling
Multiple resources can be used by multiple users. These resources can be physical or virtual, but they need to be able to scale dynamically according to demand.
Describe Rapid elasticity
The ability to seamlessly provision resources and scale resource usage back depending on demand.
Describe Measured service
Resources can be controlled and optimized automatically. This also means that information about server usage can be collected and analyzed.
Describe Public cloud
A public cloud can be accessed by anyone. Cloud-based computing resources such as platforms, applications, and storage are made available to the general public by a cloud service provider. The service provider may or may not charge a usage fee. Dropbox and Google Drive are examples of a public cloud.
Describe Private cloud
A private cloud provides resources to a single organization. Access is granted to only the users within the organization. Private clouds can be hosted internally, but because of the expense and expertise required to do so, they are typically hosted by an external third party. An organization commonly enters into an agreement with a cloud service provider who provides secure access to cloud-based resources. The organization’s data is kept separate and secure from any other organization using the same service provider.
Describe Community cloud
A community cloud is designed to be shared by several organizations. Access is granted to only the users within the organizations who are sharing the community cloud infrastructure. Community clouds can be hosted internally, with each organization sharing the cost of implementation and maintenance. Because of the expense and expertise required to run them, community clouds are commonly hosted by an external third party.
Describe Hybrid cloud
A hybrid cloud is a combination of public, private, and community cloud resources from different service providers. Their goal is to expand the functionality of a given cloud service by integrating it with other cloud services.
