What does binding communication refer to ?
Using a preliminary act before diffusing a persuasive message
What is the effect of binding communication ?
The preliminary act makes the individuals more susceptible to information they may receive later
What is important in the preliminary act for it to be useful ?
Needs to go in the same direction as the information contained in the message
Eg : signing a petition to outlaw smoking in public areas then read a message on passive smoking
What’s the difference between binding communication and persuasive communication ?
The preliminary act. It gives the target-individual the status of an actor, not a mere receiver.
What kind of research is carried out in binding communication ?
- Research that integrate both the role of commitment and free will compliance
- Research that deals with communication in general and focus on persuasive communication in particular
