1.24 -1.26 Flashcards
What does 1.24 DNA sequencing enables
mapping of genomes
What does mapping a species geonome
plus steps thanks
it means determining what genes it
contains, and the location of each gene on the DNA.
- The first step of genome mapping is to sequence the DNA (determine
the order of bases along every chromosome) - The human genome has been sequenced, but mapping has not been
completed.
What are the results of electrophoresis used to construct
DNA
profiles
They may be displayed in an electropherogram or in a table of data.
How to get the info for electropherograms
look im actually not too sure if this question relates to the info so
- Special primers that are tagged with fluorescent markers are used in the
PCR process to amplify STR regions - When the amplified DNA is placed into a capillary electrophoresis tube,
the smaller STR fragments will move faster - The fluorescent marker enables each STR to be detected as it passes a laser beam at the end of the capillary tube.
- The result is displayed as an electropherogram
what does DNA profiling identify
the unique genetic makeup of
individuals
how are dna molecules different in individuals
DNA molecules contain repeating sequences that are highly variable between different species, and between individuals
These repeating sequences are called variable number tandem repeats (VNTRs)
