Identify a local alarm.
An alarm to which a unit, or units less in number than a box alarm assignment, responds to a reported emergency

Working Fire Dispatch - An alarm consisting of an Engine Company; a Truck Company; a Battalion Fire Chief; the Safety Officer; an Air Unit; a Fire Investigation Unit; the EMS Supervisor, and an Ambulance or Medic Unit. The Engine Company
and the Truck Company dispatched on the working fire dispatch will be designated as the
Rapid Intervention Team
Define a needless or accidental alarm.
Alarms caused by smoke or steam scares, reflections, accidents to boxes or where a mistake has been made.
Define a false alarm.
In general, false alarms include only those that are sent in willfully or knowingly false
What must all Department vehicles do at each and every stop sign or “red” traffic light, when responding to alarms?
All Department vehicles shall stop at each and every stop sign and red traffic light and shall not proceed ahead into the intersection until it is consistent with safe operation to do so.
What are the guidelines regarding speed for responding units?
In responding to alarms, vehicles shall not be driven at a rate of speed greater than that justified by the physical condition of the vehicle, traffic conditions and the conditions of the roadway.
-Speed shall not exceed 35 miles per hour except when the posted speed limit is more than 35 miles per hour then the speed for responding vehicles shall not exceed the posted speed limit.
-Vehicles equipped with snow chains shall not exceed 30 miles per hour at any time.
Explain the right-of-way at a street intersection for units responding to an alarm?
Right-of-way at intersections shall be governed by the order in which units are dispatched.
-When an engine company and a truck have the same order of dispatch, the engine company shall have the right-of-way over the truck company.
-Engine companies and truck companies shall have the right-of-way at all times over chiefs, rescue squads and EMS units.
-A chief shall have the right-of-way over rescue squads and EMS units.
-Rescue squads shall have the right-of-way over EMS units
Should headlights be used when responding to alarms?
Headlights shall be used while responding to alarms, day or night.
When may members don their SCBA?l
When responding to an alarm, the donning of self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) is prohibited until the apparatus has arrived on the scene of the emergency and has come to a complete halt.
Are members permitted to don SCBA while apparatus is in motion without seat belts fastened?
Members are reminded that they are to be seated and have their seat belts fastened about them any time the apparatus is in motion.
Identify the horn signals used between the driver and tiller person of Aerial ladder trucks?
-One sound of the horn- “STOP”
-Two sounds of the horn- “GO AHEAD”
-Three sounds of the horn- “BACK UP”
Probationer identification shall be worn where?

When is PPE # 1 and PPE # 2 sent for Departmental cleaning?
-PPE # 1 is sent out in the January/June cycle
-PPE # 2 is sent out in the July/December cycle

Can members be relieved from duty when the Department is operating under the
“Emergency Mobilization Plan”?
If at the time of the change of platoons, the Department is operating under any portion of
the Emergency Mobilization Plan, no member of the Department will be relieved from duty without approval of the Fire Chief or his designee.
What will members of the off duty platoon be required to have with them when reporting
for duty under the “Emergency Mobilization Plan”?
When members of the appropriate off-duty platoon are notified that their services are required in connection with an emergency, they will report at once to their normal duty stations with the following:
-Proper Work Uniform
-EMS Certification Card
-PAT (Personnel Accountability Tag)
-ID card
-Driver’s License
-Full Protective Gear
-Go Bag
What are the hours of duty while operating under the “Emergency Mobilization Plan?
The normal hours of duty under the “Emergency Mobilization Plan” will be 0700 hours to 0700 hours. However, any phase may be instituted at any hour. The Department has the ability during a “Full Platoon Recall” status to operate with two Platoons working for 24 hours who will then be relieved by two different Platoons. The Department may operate 0700-1900 hours and 1900-0700 hours with two Platoons working 12-hour shifts
Name the Area Commands used in our Department and what Battalions are assigned to
each?
1-6 Command will be the assigned the geographic areas of the 1st and 6th Battalions.
2-3 Command will be the assigned the geographic areas of the 2nd and 3rd Battalions.
4-5 Command will be the assigned the geographic areas of the 4th and 5th Battalions.
What information should the Watch Detail impart when an alarm is received?
Notify the Company Officer or Officers that are assigned to the Units that have been
dispatched of all the information received. This includes:
-Type of Alarm
-Position Due
-Correct Address
-Assigned Tactical Channel
-All Other Pertinent Information
On an alarm, when is the Personnel Accountability System implemented?
The Incident Commander will begin tracking the Units assigned to the incident the moment Units are dispatched and continue until the incident has been mitigated, and the Incident Commander determines tracking is no longer necessary.
What is the purpose of the Personnel Accountability System?
The purpose of the DCFD Personnel Accountability System is to account for all firefighters operating within the Hazard Zone of an incident.
