What procedure should be followed during a Vehicle Search?

A

The search is best carried out by 2 CPs using a checklist.

Mirrors, torches, probes, sniffer dogs, and cameras are all specialist tools that can assist in searching vehicles, but may or may not be available depending on circumstances and operational budget.

One Team member should log all details of the search on a checklist and bag and tag any objects found.

Q

What is the procedure after a vehicle search is complete?

A

Both CPs should verify that the vehicle is clear and safe to use.

If the driver is not to remain with vehicle at all times, the vehicle is then to be secured either in locked garage, sealed and taped, under guard.

In the event of the vehicle being left unattended and unsecured, the whole search must be carried out again, or an alternative vehicle used.
