12. Muscular System Flashcards
1
Q
Muscles consists of fibers to provide:
A
Motion
Maintain posture
Produce heat
2
Q
3 Types of Muscle
A
Smooth
Cardiac
Skeletal
3
Q
Striations
A
Strips
4
Q
Skeletal Muscle Tissue
A
Conscious control
Acts as pulley system
Striated: actin and myosin
Multinucleated
5
Q
A full muscle is made up of:
A
- Muscle tissue
- Connective Tissue
- Nervous tissue
- Epithelial tissue (blood vessels)
6
Q
3 layers of connective tissue
A
Epimysium
Perimysium
Endomysium
7
Q
Epimysium
A
Outermost layer of tissue. Surrounds the entire muscle
8
Q
Perimysium
A
Surrounds groups of muscle fibers called fascicles
9
Q
Endomysium
A
Deepest layer: separates individual muscle fibers
10
Q
Muscle fiber is made of:
A
- Sarcolemma - plasma membrane
- Sarcoplasm - cytoplasm
- Myofibrils - long strands of sarcomeres
- Sacriplasmic - reticulum: storage for calcium
11
Q
Sacromere
A
- The contractile units of muscle tissue
- Made up of overlapping myosin (thick) and actin (thin) filaments
- Gives muscle striated appearance
- Filaments slide over each other to cause movements
12
Q
Thin filaments
A
- Composer of actin, troponin and tropomyosin
- Actin molecules provide anchor point for myosin heads
- Troponin and tropimyosin serve to either allow or block movement of sarcomeres (dependent on Ca levels)
