Pressure And Release Model
Consists of 3 variables: Vulnerability, Hazard Event and Risk. The vulnerability and hazard event combined affect the risk a country faces.
Root Causes
The political power and how it’s distributed within society and how the government supports and recognises the needs of different groups within society, especially those that are marginalised.
Dynamic Pressures
Contributes to vulnerability and creates unsafe conditions within certain areas and these conditions are mainly caused by humans.
Unsafe Conditions
The specific ways that an area’s vulnerability makes people unsafe e.g. where buildings are built, informal settlements, lack of health and safety, poor education and etc.
What Made Kashmir So Vulnerable?
Event happened during ramadan, lack of maps, underestimation of EQ impact, corruption, RUM left vulnerable mans behind, fragile hill slopes, remote and difficult to access region, india and pakistan partition.
What Made Kashmir Less Vulnerable?
Helicopters flew blankets and basic provisions, UN provided bare necessities, Lots of good intention due to ramadan, Dhajji Dewari house design, Good relationship with US because of soviet war.
