Advantages and disadvantages of Interviews
Adv: structured, can adapt depending on answers
Dis: time consuming if many views are needed
What are the adv and disadv of observations?
Adv: can view people, procedures, programs used and whether people are stressed
Dis: talking to users may not give you all the info and might bias you against what the client has asked for
Adv and disadv of questionnaires
Adv: effective way of gathering many views and can be analysed easily
Dis: impersonal and not effective if the correct questions have not been asked
Advantages and disadvantages of document analysis of existing paperwork
Adv: help more easily identify inputs/ processes and outputs
Dis: the reason a new system js needed is cos it is not the most effective. As a result, the documents might not give all of the info needed
What is the client?
The person who needs the solution
What is the end-user?
The people who will use the solution on a regular basis e.g to update the content
Who is the audience?
The people who the final product could be aimed at, and they just view the content without changing the data
What methods are there to find out about the client’s problem?

- questionnaires
- document analysis
- observations
