1.14 Design Communication Flashcards
What is an executive summary in a design report?
This is a concise summary of the design itself, the reasons behind the design and a summary of how effective it is
What does an introduction include in a design report?
It describes the design problem that was being tackled and explains background details such as the context, client and possible customers. This section can also include the alternative design ideas and the selection process of the idea that was developed.
What is a design report?
This is a record of the project that remains after the project has been completed and the design team has disbanded or commenced a different project.
What is included in a conclusion of a design report?
It describes the selected design, the problems encountered in the project and how these were overcome. This section evaluates how well the design works in comparison to the original specification criteria. It also explains how the design was tested. If the design did not meet the requirements of the specification, the conclusion will analyse why and how the design could be modified to make it a success.
What are the 3 sections of a design report?
1 executive summary
2 introduction
3 conclusion
What are the 6 types of graphs, tables and charts used in design?
1 bar charts
2 pictographs
3 histograms
4 line graphs
5 pie charts
6 data tables
What are the advantages of using a bar chart?
Simple to represent the data, used in many different reports and in the media, widely recognised
What are the advantages of using a pictograph?
easy to understand, quick to read, suitable for presentation
What is the disadvantage of using a pcitograph?
not very accurate
What are the advantages of using a histogram?
data shown in ranges, useful to show the frequency distribution of data, particularly useful in representing the results of research
What are the advantages of using a line graph?
can show data changes over time, relatively easy to understand, data can be shown accurately because it is plotted against a scale
What are the advantages of using a pie chart?
Shows the distribution of the data, represents relative proportion of data compared to the whole, easy to read and understand
What are the 2 types of 2D drawing?
1 orthographic projection
2 sectional drawing
What are the 3 types of 3D drawing?
1 isometric
2 one-point perspective
3 two-point perspective
What is crating?
Using a 3D box and constructing drawings inside them, parallel to the outer lines of the box
