What is the key term for health?
A state of complete mental, physical and social well being and not merely the absence of disease and infirmity
What is the key term for exercise?
A form of physical activity which maintains or improves health and/or physical fitness
What is the key term for fitness?
Ability to meet the demands of the environment
What is the key term for performance?
How well a task is completed
What are the five health related exercises?
Muscular Endurance Flexibility Body Composition Strength ( muscular strength ) Cardiovascular Fitness
What is muscular endurance?
The ability to use the voluntary muscles many times without getting tired
Eg : tennis - require strong shots at the beginning and end of game
What is flexibility?
The range of movement possible at a joint
Eg : gymnastics - doing the splits
What is body composition?
The percentage of body weight that is fat, muscle and bone
Eg : sumo wrestler- fat
boxer - muscle
What is muscular strength?
The amount of force a muscle can exert against a resistance
Eg : weightlifting - heavy weights
rugby - when two packs push against each other in a scrum
What is cardiovascular fitness?
The ability to exercise the entire body for long periods of time
Eg : football - long match
What are the 6 skill related fitness components?
Agility Balance Coordination Power Reaction Time Speed
What is agility?
The ability to change the position of the body quickly and to control the movement of the whole body
Eg : gymnast - somersaults
What is balance?
The ability to retain the centre of mass (gravity) of the body above the bass of support with reference to static(stationary) or dynamic(changing) conditions of movement shape and orientation
Eg : gymnastics - on the beam
What is coordination?
The ability to use two or more body parts together
Eg : football - hand-eye coordination for the goalkeeper to catch a shot
What is power?
The ability to undertake strength performance quickly. Power = strength x speed
Eg : sprinters - powerful in order to drive their body out the starting blocks
