11.11 Reservoirs & Accumulators Flashcards
What does the reservoir do?
Supplies the operating needs of the system but also replenishes fluid lost through leakage
What are baffle plates used for in reservoirs?
Keep fluid within the reservoir from random movement, such as vortexing and surging
What do most reservoirs incoroporate?
Strainers in the filler neck to prevent entry of foreign matter during servicing.
what should you never do with finger strainers
Should never be removed or punctured as a means of speeding up the pouring of liquid
What happens in an emergency with hydraulic systems?
Both systems obtain fluid from a single reservoir
When are non-pressurised reservoirs used
in aircraft that are not designed for violent manoeuvres
do not fly at high altitudes
how do non-pressurised reservoirs indicate fluid quantity
use a visual gauge
When are pressurised reservoirs used
For high-altitude flight
Why are pressurised reservoirs required
Reservoirs are often located in wheel wells or other non-pressurised areas and so at high alt there isn’t enough atmospheric pressure
