When was the rebellion
1405
Who was involved in the rebellion
Richard Scrope, the
Archbishop of York, as well as a number of noblemen such as
the earl of Northumberland, the earl marshal Thomas Mowbray
and Lord Bardolf
Was the revolt a success?
No it was put down effectively
What was widely criticised after the rebellion?
Scrope was executed in June of that year on Henry’s orders
Why was this widely criticised?
partly on the grounds of the archbishop’s popularity.
It was extremely unconventional for a senior clergyman to be executed. Significantly, Henry’s old friend, Thomas Arundel, tried to intercede for Scrope and was assured that his fellow priest would not be executed, but the king then betrayed this trust and had the archbishop killed anyway.
