includes protective biological, psychological and social factors which enable an individual to maintain high levels of wellbeing
biological protective factors
stem from our brains and our bodies to help maintain or promote mental wellbeing e.g adequate sleep, adequate nutrition
psychological protective factors
mental processes that can maintain and promote mental wellbeing e.g cognitive behavioural strategies, mindfulness meditation
cognitive behavioural strategies
utilising traits of cognitive behavioural therapy to recognise and change dysfunctional thought and behavioural patterns e.g journalling to reflect and identify thought patterns
mindfulness meditation
focused awareness of what your are sensing, feeling, and thinking at that given moment
benefits of psychological protective factors
reduced stress and anxiety, improved attention or concentration, decreased pain sensitivity
social protective factors
influences in an individual’s social environment that can maintain and promote mental wellbeing e.g support from family,friends community (reassurance, comfort, assistance)
