A large fleet consisting of around 240 ships arrived in Kent then sailed north pillaging and stopped at the river Humber

What did William do ?
- For the third time that year he marches north at an astounding pace and stormed into York
- The English fled but the Danes stayed on their ships
- He then stays in York up until Christmas 1069 where he wore his crown around York
What happened to york ?
Most of it lay in ruins as many houses where brunt to the ground during the fighting
What where some reason why William was successful ?
His own leadership again he had ruthlessly destroyed the opposition and showed great leadership
Why did the 2nd rebellion of 1069 fail ?

To enrich themselves if the chances here good
Swein arrived with a fresh fleet in 1070 however he decided he would rather be brided not to fight
He was therefore very happy when William bribed him with gold to return to Denmark
