15lpm O2 via NRB mask

What is emphysema?
Emphysema is the breakdown of the structure of the alveoli, they become enlarged and lose elasticity.
What is bronchitis?
Bronchitis is a chronic productive cough causing swollen bronchioles and excess mucus
What are symptoms of COPD?
SOB
Tripod position
Barrel chest
Digital clubbing
Home O2 dependance
Cyanosis
What are symptoms of pneumonia?
SOB
Increased difficulty preforming daily tasks (fatigue or SOB caused)
Fever/chills
Worsened/new productive cough within multi day timeline
What factors affect drug absorption?
Age
Environment
Weight
Gender (pregnant?)
Genetic
Psychological factors
Condition of patient
Time of admin
What is an MDI?
It is a Meter Dose Inhaler.
What dose an MDI have in it?
Powdered medications
What is the propellant in an MDI?
Usually is CO2
How long between sprays?
15-30 seconds
What must you do between sprays?
You must shake the ventolin
What does patient need to do on the first breath of ventolin?
They should try to hold their breath for 10 seconds
What is a dose of ventolin?
4x100mcg
How many breathes should the patient take for each spray?
They should take 5-6 breaths.
What flow rate should you set the O2 at when using a nebulizer?
6-8lpm O2
What is a dose of ventolin through a nebulizer?
5mg/mL
What must you make sure to do when administering ventolin through a nebulizer?
You mush ensure there is not any kinks or cracks or holes in the tubing from the O2 tank to the mask.
