10. CIS Pharmacodynamics Flashcards
How do you calculate therapeutic (safety) index?
TI = TD50/ED50
The higher the TI (therpeutic index) the….?
safer the drug
If drug A is a partial agonist and drug B is a full agonist, what is true?
Drug A has a lower Emax than Drug B b/c full agonists produce maximal effects and partial produce submaximal effects
If a drug increases HR alone, but with another highly effective B- adrenergic it causes a decrease in HR, what should the drug be classified as?
Partial agonist (makes drug not acheive Emax) - this is because the partial agonist displaced the full agonist on the receptor, causing a decrease in the increase of HR
What changes for a non-competitive agonist?
Emax decreases, EC50 does not change
What changes for a competitive agonist?
Emax does not change, EC50 increases
Once and IFN binds to a receptor, what is activated next?
Cytosolic tyrosine kinases (and/or JAK which are coupled to Receptor tyrosine kinases)
