Strategic reasons for expanding into Africa
The cape- the temperature climate and deep water port of the Cape held advantages over other harbours. The cape protected the sea route to the middle east, Australia, China and most importantly, India.- gave Britan more power over sea routes to the east.

Many British explores wanted to explore the undocumented interior regions in Africa, eg congo basin wasn’t charted by Europeans untill 1867
