reasons why the Depression increased support of Nazis
- Weimar government appeared weak & unable to deal with crisis
- unemployment was rising & Nazis offered public works to reduce it
- many feared communism, & support for it was growing
reasons why Nazi support increased
- support of industrialists (frightened of communism), gave financial backing
- made promises to various groups in society (eg. unemployed = jobs, businesses = restored profits, farmers = higher prices for produce)
- propaganda (eg. radio broadcasts, posters, rallies, parades)
- organisation - reorganised in 20s, & local leaders were well trained
- strong leader & excellent speaker
- opposition was weak & divided
