1. Pre-flight operations and departure Flashcards
What defines icing conditions?
On ground:
- OAT <+10* (in flight (TAT)
- Visible moisture (clouds, fog with vis <1600m, rain, snow, ice crystals, etc.)
- Ice/snow/slush/standing water on RWY, TWY
- The test assumes icing conditions exist!
How do you calculate XWC from drift?
XWC = Drift * TAS (nm/min)
How do you calculate HWC?
Compare TAS and G/S (or use DME)
What are the documents required for flight? Which expires when?
In Aircraft Document Bag:
- Tech log
- CofRtoS
- ADD list
- CofR (orig) - non expiring as long as no details change
- CofA (orig) - valid unless revoked by authority
- ARC - valid for 1 year
- Noise cert - N/A
- Radio license - valid as long as noth changes. Fee payable
- Insurance cert - valid for 1 year
- Weight andM+B schedule
- Interception procedures
- MEL
- FCL176 + Appendix approval for testing document - valid 1 year
In aircraft:
- AFM (side bag of FWD L seat)
- DA42 G1000 pilots guide (bag on rear of FWD L seat)
- ATS flight plan
- Aero charts (curent+suitable)
- 2* Normal checklist
- 2*QRH/Expanded checklist
How do you define Icing conditions?
- visually detected ice OR
- visible moisture at IOAT of =<3*C
What is you mixed profile sortie fuel consumption?
Assume 12GPH for both
Standard checklist procedures
-
Read and Do
- Normal chklist on ground and stationary
- All non-memory QRH (+verbalised)
-
Do and Verify
- All normal checklists in the air
- all boxed QRH
How do you calculate T/O climb gradient?
Same formula for AEO and OEI
What are the DA42 T/O performance factors
- Grass <5cm - 1.1
- Grass 5cm-10cm - 1.15
- Grass 10cm-25cm - 1.25
- Grass >25cm - no T/O!
- Wet grass 1.1
- 2% Uphill slope - 1.1
What are the DA42 LDG performance factors?
- Grass <5cm - 1.05
- Grass 5cm-10cm - 1.15
- Grass 10cm-25cm - 1.25
- Wet grass 1.1
- 2% downhill slope - 1.1
What precautions must you observe during the engine run up checks (as per L3OM)
Where possible, the aircraft is to be positioned into wind before performing run-up checks. Where
this is not possible, the aircraft is to be positioned at an angle of approximately 45 degrees to the
taxiway to avoid slipstream damage to any aircraft behind.
Before use of high power settings on the ground, pilots are to ensure the area behind the aircraft
is clear of people and obstructions.
If during preflight you find defect not listed in the MEL, can you go?
No. Maint action reqd.
If during preflight you find defect listed in the MEL, can you go?
Yes, but you need to ADD it into the tech log and sign and stamp it by an engineer.
When you get given W/V - what do you do and tell the examiner? Where else do you do this before departing?
Check X-wind withing limits- confirm with examiner. Same at dep point
What are your T/O and LDG EU OPS safety factors? What are the POH performance factors for grass, etc?
-
T/O
- 1.25*TODR (if no CWY/SWY). If greater
- TODR=TORA
- TODR*1.15=TODA
- TODR-1.3=ASDA
- Short/Med/Long/Vlong grass = *1.1/1.15/1.25/NoTO
- Wet grass - 1.1
- 2% uphill - 1.1
-
LDG
- LDR*1.43=LDA
- Short/Med/Long/Vlong grass = *1.05/1.15/1.25/NoTO
- Wet grass - 1.1
- 2% downhill- 1.1
