what is gold standard for sample of bone for infection?
bone biopsy
what are things that can happen to bones that means might get osteomyelitis? (like causes)
- open fractures
- diabetes/vascular insufficiency
- haematogenous osteomyelitis
- vertebral osteomyelitis
- prosthetic joint infection
- specific hosts & pathogens
when will flucloxacillin NOT work for staph aureus?
if methicillin resistant staph aureus
what are the 4 C drugs?
- clindamycin
- ciprofloxacin
- co-amoxiclav
- cephalosporins
what is obvious like examination sign of osteomyelitis?
can probe and feel bone
what are common bugs for osteomyelitis?
staph aureus & a little bit of strep is what you get in osteomyelitis
what bugs do you get in prosthetic limb?
staph aureus and also staph epidermis (since foreign subject)
what mostly causes vertebral osteomyelitis?
mostly haematogenous (spread by blood)
what bugs are mostly for diabetic osteomyelitis?
probably microbial
how does septic arthritis present?
red, hot, swollen -can be viral arthritis
what is myositis?
inflammation muscle - if viral tends to be aches & pains everywhere
what is pyomyositis?
= if muscle infected with pus forming organisms
very dramatic and very sore (not common)
