1 3/4 Hoseline Flashcards
Hose length
50’ sections
Hose construction
Rubber lined with a synthetic double jacket
Type of lugs on each coupling
Rocker lugs
1 3/4 is in reference to the diameter or the inside or outside of the hose?
Inside
Couplings are constructed of?
Pyrolite 1 ¾” NST
What does NST stand for?
National Standard Thread
What is the max capability of the Elkhart Chief nozzle, and what capacity does MDFR use it at?
Max capability is 250GPM, MDFR uses it at 70psi delivering 220GPM
How much friction loss for every 50’ length of hose?
15psi
What is the max length of hose that can be used?
400’
What type of nozzle is the 1 3/4” High Rise Nozzle?
Smooth Bore (15/16”)
At what rate does the High Rise Nozzle flow?
180GPM at 50psi
What other name is the 1 3/4” Preferred Foam Nozzle called?
1 3/4” SM-20
At what rate does the SM-20 flow?
125GPM at 75psi
Where will the pre-connected 1 3/4” lines be found?
Front bumper and two crosslays
How many feet of hose will the initial section of hose be on the cross lays and where are they connected to?
6’ and connected to the discharge port.
What type of load is used on the pre-connects?
Triple layer load A.K.A S load
How long are the bumper lines?
100’
How long are the cross-lays?
150’ and 200’
Why is a horseshoe implemented?
To be able to deploy the hose from the opposite side of where the nozzle is located.
How many people does it take to pull the triple layer load (S load)?
1
What is a disadvantage of the triple layer load (S load)?
The whole load must be completely removed from the bed before leading the nozzle end of the hose.
How many riding positions are there?
4
What are the riding positions?
1 Company Officer (OIC)
What does the Nozzle FF (#4) take to the point of entry?
The nozzle and the first 50’ of hose
When charging the line, what should the Nozzle FF (#4) be ensuring?
- That the desired nozzle pattern is set
- Adequate flow/pressure from the hoseline
What riding position assumes role as the door person?
Hydrand FF (#3)
What riding position assumes the backup of the Nozzle FF (#4)
1 Company Officer (OIC)
What end and how far does it get pulled through the tray when loading the triple layer load (S load)?
Female end and 24”, then fold the coupling approximately 12” over the side from the end
How many feet from the last coupling should you pick up the hose when loading the triple layer load (S load)?
2-4 feet
Nozzle should always be positioned where when entering a fire?
Out in front of you, not at your side
4 nozzle FF job is?
Deploy hose from truck to door and notify OIC he is in position and ready for water
when #4 nozle FF recieves water at the door he should?
Opens the nozzle to ensure the desired nozzle pattern is set and adequate flow/pressure from hoseline. Flowing water from a wide open bale until D/O sets proper discharge pressure
3 hydant FF role and job at a structure?
role of door person
- monitor and report conditions
- feed hose
- preven unnecessary entrance of other persons
1 OIC FF Role and job?
Role of back-up person
- monitors conditions/fires location and potential flashover indicators
- Use TIC to guide #4 toward the fire and to look for potential victims
- Positions themselves to feed hose around corners and obstacles.
4 nozzle FF proper nozzle operation
Person keeps the bail at arms length with other hand firmly grasping the hose near their body.
1 OIC FF proper nozzle operation
Firmly grasps the hose with both hands, and maintains shoulder to shoulder contact with nozzle person.
3 hydrant FF proper nozzle operation
If available, pin the hose to the ground a few feet behind the nozzle team. (not absolutely necessary)
