Informed Consent for Assessment
Nature and purpose of the assessment

A forensic practitioner can conduct an examination over the objection of the examinee if there is a court order.
If the examinee declines to proceed after being notified of the nature and purpose of the examination, the practitioner may consider the following options…
Postponing the examination
Advising the examinee to contact their attorney
Notify retaining party about examinee’s unwillingness to proceed
Test Data and Test Materials:
Overview
Raw/ scaled scores
Client/patient responses to test questions or stimuli
Psychologist notes and recordings of behavioral observations
When Test Data can be withheld
To protect the client from substantial harm or misuse or written misrepresentation of the data or the test
Protection of Test Materials
Psychologist must make reasonable efforts to protect the integrity and security of test materials
E.g. manuals, protocols, test questions or stimuli
Assessment Results:
Interpretation
Psychologist must consider purpose of assessment and any factors that might affect accuracy with of interpretation
Must indicate any potential limitations of conclusions
Cultural considerations such as language skills
Scoring and Interpretation Services
Psychologist must describe the purpose, validity, reliability, norms, and application of the services
Also specify any special qualifications required for their use

Psychologists must take reasonable steps to ensure that explanation of results are given to the individual or designated representative
Cannot just give a client their scores
Need to provide an understandable explanation of scores and implications

Conclusions are based on assessment results
Techniques must always be used for appropriate purposes
Tests administered, scored, interpreted by qualified people only
Recommendations are not based on results of outdated or obsolete tests

Difficult to determine when assessing results are no longer useful or valid
Client’s welfare is always the guiding principle:
“Is retention or deletion of the data in the best interest of the client?”
