What is a thymoma commonly associated with?
Myasthenia Gravis- most common

What is myelofibrosis?
Impairment of the bone marrow to produce normal blood cells
Leads to anaemia, splenomegaly and hypermetabolic syndrome e.g. weight loss and night sweats
How is G6PD deficiency diagnosed?
G6PD enzyme assay completed at presentation and 3 months later to avoid false negatives
What is the anti-coagulant of choice in patients with renal impairment?
Apixaban as it is not renally cleared
What are signs of G6PD deficiency on blood films?
Heinz bodies
Bite and blister cells
What features prompt an urgent FBC (within 48hrs) in people aged 0-24?
Pallor Persistent fatigue Unexplained fever Unexplained persistent infections Generalised lymphadenopathy Persistent or unexplained bone pain Unexplained bruising Unexplained bleeding
What are signs of transfusion associated lung injury?
Hypoxia
Pulmonary infiltrates on CXR
Fever
Hypotension
What are signs of transfusion associated circulatory overload?
Pulmonary oedema
HTN
Not Hypotension!
What is sideroblastic anaemia?
Condition where red cells fail to form haem
Leads to iron deposits around the mitochondria that form a ring around the nucleus called a ring sideroblast
What are causes of sideroblastic anaemia?
Myelodysplasia
Alcohol
Lead
Anti- TB medications
