04.3 Histology Flashcards
What are the two main cell categories in the seminiferous tubules?
Seminiferous epithelium = Sertoli cells + Germ Cells
Leydig cells
What is the most common type of neoplasm in testis for young men?
Germ cell tumours
What is the epithelium of the rete testis?
Simple cuboidal
What is the epithelium of the efferent duct?
Ciliated “scalloped” epithelia
What is the epithelium of the epididymis?
Pseudostratified epithelium with stereocilia
What is the epithelium of the vas deferens?
Pseudostratified epithelium
What is the epithelium of the seminal vesicles?
Secretory epithelium
What kind of neoplasm occurs in the peripheral zone of the prostate?
Prostatic adenocarcinoma
What occurs in the transitional zone of the prostate
Benign prostatic hyperplasia
Why is ovarian cancer usually of epithelial origin?
Epithelia constantly regenerates due to ovulation
What cells make up a primordial follicle?
Small oocyte + flat follicular cells
What cells make up a primary follicle?
Oocyte of max diameter
1 layer of cuboidal granulosa cells
Zona pellucida deveops between granulosa and oocyte
What occurs when the follcile becomes a pre antral follicle?
Theca established
What is the cumulus oophorus?
The remaining “stalk” of cells left after antral development is at its maximum
What is the epithelium of the ampulla of the uterine tube?
Secretory cells with cilia
