Urogenital ridge - intermediate mesoderm
What drives the development of the male reproductive tract?
SRY gene on y chromosome
What does the gonad form from?
Mesoderm (primordial germ cells then migrate in)
What does the mesonephric duct become in men and women?
Men - Vas deferens (suported by androgens)
Women - Degenerates
What does the paramesonephric duct become in men and women?
Men - degenerates (MIH)
Women - fallopian tubes and uterus
What forms the scrotum?
Genital swellings
What forms the penile urethra?
Genital fold fusion
What forms the clitoris?
Genital tubercle
What forms the labia?
Labia majora - Genital swelling
Labia minora - Genital fold
What happens in men if the genital fold doesn’t fuse properly?
Hypospadias
