What is the response to a bomb threat?
Establish command position from the QM lobby
Call XO
Close the ship, visitors and civilian workers requested to proceed to shore.
Do not tell them there is a bomb threat
DC Condition Zulu, close all red openings. Doors and hatches to upper deck open.
Once visitors ashore, make bomb threat pipe

What is the pipe to alert the ship of a bomb threat and when do you make it?
“BOMB THREAT, BOMB THREAT, SHIP’S COMPANY STAND FAST AND IF IMMEDIATELY AVAILABLE DON ACTION DRESS, THE MACHINERY STATE IS NOT TO BE CHANGED” (repeat)
What is the pipe you make when you begin the search for the bomb?
“INFORMATION HAS BEEN RECEIEVED THAT AN EXPLOSIVE DEVICE HAS BEEN PLACED WITHIN THE SHIP. STAND WHERE YOU ARE, CLOSE YOUR EYES AND LISTEN FOR ANY UNUSUAL SOUNDS”.
“ALL HANDS ARE TO STAND FAST AND CARRY OUT A QUICK PRELIMINARY SEARCH OF THE AREA YOU ARE IN BUT DO NOT DISTURB ANYTHING THAT IS SUSPICIOUS. DO NOT SWITCH EQUIPMENT ON OR OFF.”
“IF A SUSPICIOUS OBJECT IS FOUND, DO NOT TOUCH IT, EVACUATE THE SPACE, CLOSE THE DOOR, POST A SENTRY IN A SAFE AREA, AND REPORT IT IMMEDIATELY TO COMMAND”

Escort and sanitize visitors and contractors off ship.
Sanitize flight deck and jetty.

CO, XO, MPs, Fire Dept, Local MOC, Hospital, Adjacent ships, KHM
Does the QM pull fire box?
No, it would draw attention.
What is the immediate action of personnel upon hearing the bomb threat pipe?
Don flash gear and conduct preliminary search of immediate surroundings.
Do you evacuate the ship right away? Why?
No. Evacuate based on own assessment, EOD personnel, and XO.
If you evacuate, you may save some crew but you may lose the ship because there is nobody on-board. Mission > Personnel > Materiel
What do you do if there are not enough people on board to search ship?
