17
Q

Endocoarditis:

A
  • -Endocarditis is an infection of the endocardium, which is the inner lining of your heart chambers and heart valves.*
  • -Endocarditis generally occurs when bacteria, fungi or other germs from another part of your body, such as your mouth, spread through your bloodstream and attach to damaged areas in your heart*

endocarditis can damage or destroy your heart valves and can lead to life-threatening complications

18
Q

Encephalitis :

A
  • inflammation of the brain.
  • most common is viral infection.
  • Encephalitis often causes only mild flu-like signs and symptoms — such as a fever or headache inflammation of the brain.
  • Encephalitis can also cause confused thinking, seizures, or problems with senses or movement
19
Q

Karposis Sarcoma

  • Define:*
  • Pt with this disease can develop what?*
A

Rare slow growing skin tumor

  • usually males of Italian/E Europ. Jewish ancestry
  • Pt’s with this Disease DEVELOP

“non-Hodgkin Lymphoma”

(blood cancers that include all kinds of cancers with exception of Hodghin’s lymphoma)

-develops in HIV patients

20
Q

Bartonella Henselae

Virulence Factor:

A

1. Adherence

2. TAA’s (Trimaric Antotransporter Adhesins)

3. LPS (lipopolysaccharide)

  • also known as endotoxins,*
  • -are large molecules consisting of a lipid and a polysaccharide composed of O-antigen,*
  • -outer core and inner core joined by a covalent bond; they are found in the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria.*
