Toxoplasma gondii
found in cat feces, usually acquired by eating raw meat
not spread just by contact w/cat
usually asx in healthy host
can»_space; b/l nontender CERVICAL adenopathy
Bartonella henselae (cat scratch)
Slow growing gram - rod
Often from kittens (carry dz while asx)
Sx 1-8wks after scratch/bite
*Fluctuant AXILLARY adenitis (regional) w/distal papule
*Parinaud oculoglandular syndrome
conjunctivitis, preauricular lad
*granulomas (liver, spleen), encephalitis
*BA: bacillary angiomatosis
immunocompromised
blood vessel proliferation»_space; tumor- like masses (skin, elsewhere)
Dx: serology
Tx: self-limited
abx if severe systemic: azithro, erythro, bactrim, rifampin, gent
Salmonella
iguanas, other lizards, reptiles
Pasturella multocida
cat/dog bites
sx develop in <24hrs
Tx: PCN/Augmentin
Campylobacter
fecal transmission
Coxiella burnetii
respiratory secretions
Bordetella bronchiseptica
respiratory secretions
Rabies
bite/scratch w/infected saliva skunk, raccoon, fox, coyote, woodchuck ANY exposure to bats dog, cat, ferret w/unknown vaccination prophylaxis if can't observe for 10d Prophylaxis: RIG and vaccination
