Zoology week 6 lab Flashcards
what is cellular respiration?
A process of taking oxygen and glucose and turning them into ATP
what does Aerobic and Anaerobic mean?
Aerobic - oxygen
Anaerobic - no oxygen
what are they 3 main stages of aerobic cellular respiration?
glycolysis
Citric Acid Cycle (krebs)
Electron Transport Chain (ETC)
What does ATP stand for?
Adenosine Triphosphate
what nutrient molecule is necessary for glycolysis to begin?
Glucose. Chemical reactions formed by ATP “jump starts” the process.
what does glucose become at the end of glycolysis?
Pyruvic acid
What else is produced during the process of glycolysis?
NADH + Hydrogen + Electrons
there is a brief step after the end of glycolysis, and before the kreb cycle begins. What 3 substances are produced in this intermediate step?
Acetyl COA
Acetyl 2
NADH
The Krebs cycle has many steps. What are the products of the krebs cycle?
ATP, NADH, FADH2, CO2, Hydrogens, Electrons
In which steps of cellular respiration is CO2 formed? Where does CO2 go?
Krebs + intermediate. CO2 goes into blood (glucose)
What are at least 2 names for the 3rd step of cellular resperation?
Electron Transport Chain
electron transfer phosphorylation
why is it so important about NADH and FADH2 and their accompanying electrons?
They are bringing electrons to the ETC
What are the resulting 2 products of ETC?
36 ATP molecules
H2O
one of these products from ATP requires what element?
Oxygen
Where did oxygen come from?
Breathing in
