peptic ulcer, pyloric obstruction, and gastric cancer
Diagnosis of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome is via
PUD
MENI
or fasting gastrin level test- gastric pH less than 2 with serum gastrin levels 10x normal
Treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome includes
proton pump inhibitor
H2 antagonist
surgical resection- stage and location must be established
rule out MENI as potential cause
Surgical considerations for Zollinger-Ellison syndrome includes
increased gastric volume
esophageal reflux
diarrhea- electrolyte imbalance & fluid imbalance
RSI
vital signs may be labile
maintain normothermia, normocarbia & renal function
